After being suspected of molesting three girls under the age of 12 and evading police for a year, former a former Phoenix resident was caught in Florida, thanks to America’s Most Wanted, the Arizona Republic reports. Phoenix police described the man, Jack O’Neill, as the No. 1 suspect on their “Silent Witness” list of most wanted fugitives. The Silent Witness Program began talks with America’s Most Wanted. On March 24, it profiled the suspect on its “Fifteen Seconds of Shame” segment. Viewers responded with calls, one of which located O’Neill, who was working with a traveling carnival.
“There has never been a case where we have been able to stand in front of you and take credit for apprehending a high-profile suspect,” said Sgt. Paul Penzone, coordinator of the Silent Witness program. “This is one of those cases.” The viewer whose tip led to O’Neill’s arrest declined to accept the reward money for his capture, listed at $5,000 by the Silent Witness Web site. “It was not about money, it was about getting this guy off this streets,” Penzone said. “Don’t ever underestimate your gut feeling,” he said. “More often than not, you are correct, and we need that phone call.”
