FBI Warns Of Hoax E-Mails On Computer Purchases

The FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center is warning of an e-mail scam involving consumers’ supposed computer purchases through an online service provider. An e-mail message contains a link if the recipient wishes to dispute the charges to their account. Once the link is selected, the recipient is requested to provide account information.

An apparently related e-mail hoax includes a PDF attachment claiming to be the order summary. The attachment contains a virus that the FBI says will infect your computer. The FBI’s Web site regularly posts warnings of such scams.
