The Rocky Mountain News says a turf war may be brewing over who will represent John Mark Karr, the man suspected of the 1996 murder of child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey. Boulder, Colorado public defender Seth Temin met with Karr four hours on Friday and said his office would serve as Karr’s defense attorneys. But two California lawyers, Patience Van Zandt and Jamie Harmon, say they are Karr’s counsel.
“My team is the Colorado State Public Defender’s Office,” Temin said. “There will be no other attorneys that are not part of the public defender’s system on this case.” Meanwhile, the Denver police lab confirmed Friday it has been asked to analyze DNA from Karr to see whether there is a match from fluid found on the underwear of JonBenet, who was 6 when she was found strangled in the basement of her parents’ house on Dec. 26, 1996.
