Patriot Act Renewal Passed by U.S. Senate

The U.S. Senate overwhelmingly voted to renew the the USA Patriot Act this week, virtually guaranteeing that the sweeping antiterror law will go to President Bush to be signed, the New York Times reports. The vote followed revisions in the law to add more protections for individual privacy.

That deal mollified four Senate Republicans, who had joined with Democrats last year in blocking the act’s renewal.
