Drug Dealer Turned Youth Counsellor Facing Murder Charges

Howard D. Payne, 59, a self-described former drug dealer who counselled troubled inner city youths in trouble with the law, has been charged with first-degree murder, the Boston Globe reports. Payne is accused of first-degree murder in the Feb. 10 shooting death of Ismael DelValle.

In 1994, the paper’s magazine reported that Payne said he had been a drug dealer but changed his life through faith and was active in the Boston Ten Point Coalition in the 1990s.
