Protesters enraged by the three shootings by Cleveland Police in a month took over the lobby of City Hall yesterday afternoon, says the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Art McKoy, founder of Black on Black Crime Inc., led about 60 people to the security checkpoint leading to City Hall offices. They waved flags and signs that called police murderers. McKoy warned that next time the group would march on Mayor Jane Campbell’s office.
In three police shootings, two of them deadly, last month, the officers were white and the suspects black. Two detectives shot a 15-year-old armed-robbery suspect to death. Last Friday, a patrolman shot a 36-year-old man to death. “We are tired of black men’s blood being shed in the city of Cleveland,” said Mariah Crenshaw, a local minister. City Prosecutor Anthony Jordan said yesterday that the Friday shooting appears justifiable.
