Meth Biggest Contributor To Record High Idaho Prison Count

Methamphetamine cases are overloading the Idaho Department of Correction, the Idaho Statesman reports. “Methamphetamine is the biggest contributor to growth in our prisons and the lack of community-based programs,” said Tom Beauclair, director of the Idaho Department of Correction.

Idaho’s prison population is at an all-time high, Beauclair said: 6,631 inmates are incarcerated, and those on probation and parole number more than 11,000. The department might have to send inmates out of state before year’s end because facilities are at or above capacity, he said.
