Maryland #1 In First U.S. News Criminology Rating


The University of Maryland at College Park ranks number one in the first U.S. News & World Report rankings of doctoral programs in criminology and criminal justice. There are now 33 such programs, up from 13 in 1990, the magazine reports. The response rate was 88 percent in a survey asking unidentified respondents to rate the academic quality of programs.

The second ranking program was the State University of New York at Albany, followed by the University of Cincinnati; a three way tie between Rutgers State University at Newark, the University of California at Irvine and the University of Missouri at St. Louis; a tie between Michigan State and Penn State universities; a tie between the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the University of Pennsylvania; a tie between John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York, Florida State University, and the University of Florida; and a tie between Northeastern University and the Uniersity of Delaware.
