Miami Police Chief John Timoney arrested a thief who had snatched a woman’s purse containing all of her Christmas-shopping money, says the Miami Herald. Timoney has made four drug arrests in the same neighborhood and caught a burglar after the man broke into his daughter’s car. In yesterday’s case, a woman in front of an apartment complex reached into her purse for some change to give a beggar when the thief snatched her wallet.
At about the same time, Timoney and his assistant arrived to drop off a tip for the doorman. Turner told them her story; she didn’t realize she was talking to the chief of police. They drove off in the chief’s unmarked car and quickly spotted the man, who still had most of Turner’s money on him.
