Minneapolis Chief Cannot Carry Gun, Get Classified Info

Minneapolis Police Chief Bill McManus has been working for four months, but he can’t wear a uniform, carry a gun or get classified security information. He has not received his state license as a peace officer or his FBI clearance for classified security information.

Without the security clearance, he can’t attend sessions of the Joint Terrorism Task Force for Minnesota and has relied on several high-ranking members of the Police Department who have the clearance to attend those briefings. McManus said that he is working on the application for the FBI clearance and that he plans to take the test for his state licensing “sooner [rather] than later,” which will allow him to wear a uniform, make arrests and carry a gun.
