S.C. Officers Suspended For Card Playing On Duty

Five Greenville, S.C., police officers who were caught playing cards last month while they were supposed to be patrolling have been suspended without pay for up to five days, reports the Greenville News. Interim city manager Ron McKinney said the officers and a trainee were discovered by their sergeant in the early morning hours December 30 playing cards and using pennies as chips. Evidence suggests it was the third time in about 10 days that the officers gathered in a municipal courthouse conference room while they should have been on the streets.

“This, for us, is an unfortunate event,” McKinney said. “It’s an embarrassing event. We’re grateful that in this instance nothing untoward happened.”
