Several jurors will explain today why they found Durham, N.C., novelist Michael Peterson guilty of murder in his wife’s death and called for a life prison sentence. The Associated Press says the jurors will hold a news conference this afternoon.
Peterson was sentenced Friday for killing Nortel Networks executive Kathleen Peterson, in the couple’s Durham mansion on Dec. 9, 2001. The jurors sat through 63 days of trial before agreeing with prosecutors that Peterson fatally beat his wife of five years. Peterson did not testify. His attorneys argued that Kathleen Peterson died from an accidental stairway fall. Peterson will appeal the conviction.
