Police are investigating how a 4-year-old boy in Palmer Park, Md., a suburb of Washington, D.C., got a .45-cal. semiautomatic handgun he used to kill a sister, 5, and wound a brother, 7.
Prince George’s County police said that charges could be filed against the parents or others who had left the weapon within the child’s reach, the Washington Post reports.
The children’s parents, Gregory Thigpen Sr. and Jennifer Brice, spent most of yesterday at a hospital where their son was recovering from surgery. Thigpen, a security guard, said he was at work when the shooting occurred on Saturday.
