A research company charges that U.S. prescription drugs are a potential target for terrorists, USA Today reports. The paper notes that the drug supply is increasingly vulnerable to counterfeits.

The firm GlobalOptions’ says that terrorists use profits from counterfeit drugs to finance their operations, that tainted products could be slipped into the U.S. through small wholesalers that buy and sell prescription drugs, and that terrorists may use the Internet to sell tainted drugs.

Representatives of the World Health Organization, drug companies, corporate anti-counterfeiting experts and the Food and Drug Administration are scheduled to speak today at a conference on the subject sponsored by the Institute for International Research.
