Fired Dallas Police Chief Terrell Bolton will sue the city, which refuses to offer him a settlement or enter into arbitration, the Dallas Morning News reports. Meanwhile, Bolton supporters are trying to recall Mayor Laura Miller, who they say lobbied for his ouster. “She has offended blacks, Hispanics and whites, as well,” said the Rev. S.C. Nash of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance. “This is a grassroots effort of people coming together to say we have had enough of Laura Miller.”
Miller said disgruntled supporters of Bolton were fueling the recall effort. “It is an issue of the chief,” she said. “It is fallout from a group of people that told us a month ago that ‘If you don’t reinstate the chief and give him a settlement package, we will be back every week.’ They are not letting it go.” Miller said she was not involved in the decision to fire Bolton, which was done by the city manager, though she said it was the right move.
To trigger a recall election, 72,873 signatures from qualified voters are due within 60 days.
