A suspect was arrested Friday in a string of rapes that had terrorized several southeast Miami neighborhoods, the Miami Herald reports.
The man accused of raping seven women was charged with five of the rapes Sunday at his first court appearance while acquaintances wondered whether he picked a victim from one of his favorite hang-outs.
Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Manny Crespo ordered Reynaldo Elías Rapalo, 32, held without bail during a 5-minute court hearing during which the suspect, in a red jail jumpsuit, appeared via closed-circuit television.
Rapalo was also charged with one count each of burglary with assault and aggravated stalking. One of the charges involved a victim 11 or younger.
Police arrested Rapalo Friday night shortly after he left Los Chapines cafeteria at 1440 West Flagler St., acquaintances say.
Even as he stood in court, fresh details emerged about a man who police say terrorized several southeast Miami neighborhoods. People who knew him described a polite man who enjoyed a Corona and steak sandwich in the evenings — but who also had trouble with women.
