The federal terror alert level soon may be lowered from orange to yellow. The Associated Press says that a review of intelligence regarding threats is under way. The level was increased to orange just 10 days ago. Orange indicates a high risk of terrorist attack, while yellow is elevated. It’s the middle level on a five-color scale. The lowest two levels, green and blue, and the highest, red, have not been used since the system was adopted in March 2002.
With the higher alert, government authorities and businesses stepped up security, particularly at large gatherings over the Memorial Day weekend. Lowering the level would allow scaling back some security measures, a move favored by many local governments struggling with budget shortfalls.
