Former Arkansas Senator Tim Hutchinson, now a lobbyist seeking contracts from the new Department of Homeland Security, says he will not lobby one of the department’s senior officials, Under Secretary Asa Hutchinson, his younger brother, the New York Times reports.

Tim Hutchinson, a Republican who lost his re-election bid last year, represents two corporate clients before his brother’s department: the Thermo Electron Corporation of Massachusetts and the CompuDyne Corporation in Maryland.

At least five former top deputies to Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge have also signed on in recent months as “homeland security” lobbyists. Ridge says his department is preparing tough ethics rules to prevent conflicts of interest involving lobbyists with personal ties to the department.

Asked if his brother’s lobbying created any awkwardness, Asa Hutchinson said: “I don’t think so. Tim and I have been involved in politics for a long time. So we’ve had intersecting paths. It’s something you deal with.”
