A three-hour bus tour through North Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood provides a glimpse into life in a drug-plagued area. The Christian Science Monitor describes “the sights on this trail of smuggling and addiction”
a short ride from Philadelphia’s Center City. The drug trade ranks behind only public assistance as the neighborhood’s top income source. The tours are sponsored by the Kensington Welfare Rights Union “to educate the impoverished people of Kensington about the realities of the drug trade.” KWRU, online at www.kwru.org, offers the tour to anyone; participants pay on a sliding scale.
