Some crime victim advocates object to media reporting of sexual assault charges against the accused kidnappers of 15-year-old Elizabeth Smart, reports the Salt Lake Tribune. A flood of e-mail messages and phone calls to the Salt Lake City Rape Recovery Center ask, in effect, “How can they publish what happened to her,” said the center’s Jamee Roberts. Grace call of the Utah Coalition Against Sexual Assault says details of Elizabeth’s kidnapping are not “the media’s business.” The newspaper itself said that “Most media outlets have policies against naming sexual-assault victims, but that became impossible to follow after Elizabeth’s name had been trumpeted for months as a kidnap victim.”
